The Feed-Well name has direct ties to Chatham County.

In the early 1900s, Feedwell Cafe, known for its rabbit dinners and "home-like" atmosphere, thrived in downtown Siler City, N.C. The Feed-Well Fridge name honors this part of the county's history.

HOW IT WORKS

Feed-Well Fridges are placed in areas where residents in need often lack access to fresh food options.

Teams of volunteers are crucial to this program's success. These volunteers work daily with restaurants, grocery stores and other commercial food businesss to collect unsold prepared food and meals, which are then delivered to each Feed-Well Fridge. Residents in need are free to take any food they want and leave what they don’t.

Volunteers work to ensure fridges are clean and that all food and meals are properly dated, labeled and disposed of as needed.

We are also partnering with local farmers to stock the community fridges with fresh produce, eggs and fruit!

Saving Good Food and the Environment

Every year, restaurants toss thousands of pounds of perfectly good food into the trash. Through the Feed-Well Fridges program, local restaurants will now have a way to re-distribute fresh meals to people in need, helping to eliminate food waste and reduce their carbon footprint by diverting waste from landfills.
